Geranium Plates by Bordallo Pinheiro

Just In, whimsically beautiful geranium leaf plates at Watson Kennedy. Pleased as punch to announce the arrival of our latest order of Bordallo Pinheiro from Portugal. Since 1884, they have been creating cherished heirloom quality tableware to be enjoyed through the generations. We have carried bits & pieces over the years but my fondness and admiration has grown as we use it in our own homes and love it so much. So look for more and more than of it showing up on our shop shelves and vignettes in the coming months.



 

 

Domaine Magellan Le Fruit Défendu

I spent most of yesterday at the showrooms ordering goods for the shops. That always makes me work up an appetite! I knew I wanted to make Parmesan/Panko chicken breasts with a big heaping Meyer lemon vinaigrette arugula salad atop it for supper. A quick stop into our fab neighbor next to the First & Spring shop, Cone & Steiner, produced this easy French table wine that would be perfect with the meal. And indeed it was.

From the maker: 6 hectares of old Cinsault vines on our beautiful sandstone sites. The vines come from field selections conducted in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region at the start of the 1960s. 90% Cinsault, 10% Syrah Red Fruit Défendu comes from a part of the vineyard where the grapes are smaller and more concentrated. The fruit is entirely destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks with pumping over and punching of the cap. Vatting duration is short, at 10-12 days, and all the grapes are picked by hand. The perfect complement to all grilled foods as well as white meats such as roast guinea fowl, rabbit with mustard and Normandy-style poultry or veal.



 

 

An Oscar Lunch

This table really has nothing to do with the Oscars, but I did set it for lunch on Sunday in excitement for The Oscars later that night. I just thought calling it ‘An Oscar Lunch’ had a fun ring to it. What got me most excited about setting this table at WestWard were the red striped linen napkins that are new to the shop. They set the tone for the whole table. I chose the tulips with little red streaks in them to compliment the red in the napkins, if ever so subtly. Then red things started getting pulled from the closet and shelves. The hand painted lobster glasses the final touch added that made it all a bit beach-y.



 

 

Ted’s Tip No. 190

Keep a random assortment of vintage bottles by your sink in the kitchen. That way they are at the ready to hold herbs, blooms, stems. The sight of them will make doing dishes a delight.

Lily Love

Flower Friday brings us a single lily stem I picked up at the new Whole Foods a few blocks from the apartment on Monday. The buds were tightly closed. Within days they started to open ever so beautifully. The scent catching me the moment the elevator doors open on to our floor. Heaven. Hope you all have a grand week-end! X, T

Refreshed Plaid Windows

The pink & green plaid windows are here to stay for awhile as I am liking them so darn much. Valentine’s Day came and went in a snowy haze in my mind, and also reality, blur. In went an ode to many of my favorite things above, and to birds and flowers below. These will stay up until Mother’s Day windows take over, but I think those will have a preppy spin to them, as well. Fun to play with all this vibrant color on these chilly days…



 

 

Open Shelving

I have posted two images this week on Instagram that has garnered quite a few questions. The photos were of some of our kitchen shelves in town as well as out on the island. We prefer our upper shelves to be open, liking the ability to see what things we readily have to pull from. It also keeps us ruthless in our editing because seeing everything makes you super aware of what you need and what you don’t need. Open shelving allows you to grab at will while you are cooking or setting a table. Both of our spaces are not large, so the extra depth of the open cabinet draws your eye even deeper. They instantly make the rooms feel more spacious.
