POLLARD 2016 Cabernet Franc

Wine Wednesday brings us this crazy good Cabernet Franc by our friend Robin Pollard. You might recognize her name from me writing about her and the coffee she roasts and blends for Watson Kennedy. She invited us over recently for a taste of her new wine on a lovely Vashon Sunday afternoon. Oh my, we were smitten with this new vintage. While her home is on the island, Pollard Vineyard is a ten acre site located in the Upper Yakima Valley of Washington State. Truly an exceptional part of the world for a vineyard. This is just her second bottling, her first I wrote about awhile back. I know many of you have asked me where to buy the wines I write about, and sadly, they are not always available in your area. Robin does ship this fabulous wine, if you are at all interested. Click here. We love supporting small businesses, and when that is a talented hard working friend–we say cheers to that!

Andrew Will “Champoux Vineyard” Sorella

The first Wine Wednesday of the year starts off with a bang, with a really special bottle.  It was a gift from Robin Pollard who roasts and blends up the crazy good coffee we are now selling at WK.  Her husband owns Andrew Will Winery on Vashon Island.  On a tour of the winery, their home and sensational grounds, she presented us with this bottle.  I knew we were in for a treat.  We enjoyed it last week at WestWard the first night we were back to kick-off our annual week after Christmas stay.  Oh my word, heaven.  On so many levels.  While this bottle was a 2011, the below verbiage is for the 2012.  If you can get your hands on any vintage, do.  You will be in for a memorable bottle.

From the maker:  Textured, balanced and rich, our signature wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon from the Champoux Vineyard; 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. The gorgeously nose shows a blend of cassis, graphite, river stones, tobacco leaf with hints of black currants and dark rasberry. The palate shows a superb full-bodied, balanced, structured wine that integrates a combination of smooth tannins and bright acids. It finishes with excellent length and grip, on the pure and complex finish.
