I received my advanced copy of my book yesterday. It is now feeling quite real. When I sat with my friends Catherine, Rise’ and Linda at Brasserie Les Halles in New York in early November after picking up a color copy of the book from my editor at Sterling, they were all surprised I was not more ecstatic. As we sat sipping celebratory Veuve looking through the pages, of course I was happy. But as I told them, when I hold the finished product in my hands, then it will all seem real. Then I will jump for joy. The process and life of a book is quite long. As a small business owner, patience is not my strong suit–you just have limited time to get things done. The process of a book involves so many folks over a good span of time. I started referring to it all as, “rush, rush, wait, wait.” By the time the book officially comes out on May 6th, it will be 2 years almost to the day since I made my book proposal. So when I opened up that FedEx box yesterday, it finally all felt so real. I could not be happier with all of it. I jumped for joy! I love the size, I love the paper chosen for the pages, I love the linen textured cover, I love the white de-bossed title. So much time went into planning & thinking about it all, then writing it, then styling the vignettes, then photographing it all, then laying out and planning all the pages. It is just how I had hoped it would be.
2 things. You can pre-order the book on Amazon, and you can pre-order one from Watson Kennedy. It will be on the WK website in the coming days. May 6th we will be having a big book signing party at the First Avenue shop. Veuve Clicquot will be one of the sponsors of the event. Tons more details to follow, but I wanted to give you all a heads up. Then book tour spots and dates will be announced. Such an exciting, fun, busy time! I love that you are all with me for this journey.
I must tell you, having you all along for my adventures is a pretty cool thing. But by now, I think/hope you know this, and know how truly grateful I am. My book journey that began in May 2012 and has continued consistently since has just been so much sweeter being able to write these posts and keep all of you abreast of the process and progress. At some points it has not felt real. With all the timelines and the duration of the entire process, just the idea that the book you are working away on will actually one day be a real book that people will hold, read, look at, hopefully get inspired by–it all seems quite distant. But yesterday it seemed very real. I was asked to do a display for the showroom in Seattle where the book will be ordered by shops around the Pacific Northwest in the coming months. To work on the area where the book would be ‘presented’ was just quite a special thing. Here are a few images I snapped of the display. Each item relating to the “A to Z” of things I wrote about and photographed for the book. To be able to personalize it in my own way was so lovely. The women that make up this showroom, many I have known for years, have been so incredibly supportive of this process all along the way. All the other showrooms across the country won’t have quite the personalized attention, but it just warms me to know they will all be showing my book at all the shows in the coming months. Let the selling begin!
The cover of my book has been decided on, and I am over the moon! Have been very excited to share this with all of you. Simplicity is such a prevailing theme throughout the book, and the table I set that was chosen for the cover speaks to that word and philosophy. I have always loved the combo of green & white together, so it is fun to see it in action on the cover. The day I shot this table, it was stunningly beautiful outside, so the natural light streaming in through the windows just made the table sparkle. Spring 14′, May 6th to be exact, will be the release date. It has been such a delight having you all along on my book journey with me–it continues…
