As the chilly breeze blows about through the window and rain taps gently on the sill, my mind wanders to late Summer at the end of August. The tomatoes overflowing at the farm stands and the buckets of dahlias at the Market a riot of intense color. For many of you reading, your hot season is at this very moment. For others, your cold season is winding down. On this chilly early Sunday morning, I am dreaming of being on the deck at WestWard in full sun thinking of what to make with all the tomatoes. Wherever you are, I wish you just the very best day. Oh, and happy Oscar night too, if that is your thing!
The sun was streaming through the shutters so beautifully, creating lines all over the dining room table and illuminating the creamy slightly washed out yellow tulips, almost to the point where they looked like they were being lit from within. Flowers can often have a spiritual quality. These certainly did. They also had a bit of a peony vibe to them. I just had to stop and gaze every chance I could. They are our Flower Friday bloom for all of you to enjoy too.
Yellow gets a bit more attention this week as Flower Friday is all about a variety of yellow dahlias from Calico Gardens on Vashon Island. We had our friend Cara visiting from Florida so she and Mister Sive took a drive around the island while I prepared lunch and they made a stop and loaded up the back of the car with a jaunty variety of yellow dahlias. The blooms as well as the 3 of us made the ferry crossing the next day and they found a happy home in the city scattered all around in single stem vases in an assortment of shapes & sizes.
There is just something about the light this time of year that creates an ethereal quality to things. The sun shining through the shutters the other morning creating shadows across the dining table illuminating the dahlias has me loving yellow this week in many forms.
I love when things flow together, both in daily life as well as design. Such was the case this past week-end, when the tomatoes we were having as part of the meal were pulling out the same colors as the dahlias that were dancing down the middle of the table. A lucky coincidence but one of those in life that I love to revel in.
Must have been the sunny sunny Sunday that had my mind on yellow, the energizing hue. From bright lemon yellow to a tad of orange in the tone to warm it up a bit, I am crazy for yellow at the moment in just about any and all forms.
Flower Friday a new post idea. Not sure why it has taken me close to 5 years to think of this. Insert very large smile. Silly me. So look for my favorite blooms coming your way each Friday. These intensely yellow tulips echoing the incredibly beautiful sunshine we have had a bunch of the last few days. Yellow equals happiness in this case.
The sun was out yesterday as well as today and it just feels so darn good. It has me again thinking of and being inspired by yellow. In many things, in many ways.
If it seems like I am a bit tulip crazed, I am. There are just so many amazing varieties when I am walking the Market, that by the time I make a choice, I am a bit light-headed with delight. The above I had never seen before–deep, deep yellow with a bits of hot pink. Yellow is such an energizing color. A little indoor sunshine. Happy Tuesday all!
