Major Grey’s Chutney

This is one of those things we always have a jar of in the fridge at the ready. Add a dollop to a sandwich, serve alongside chicken, or for a super easy week night appetizer with a good piece of cheese and a baguette or crackers. Major Grey’s is a type of chutney, reputedly created by a 19th-century British Army officer of the same name who lived in British India. Its characteristic ingredients are mango, raisins, vinegar, lime juice, onion, tamarind extract, and spices. A jar also makes a lovely host/hostess gift in place of wine or jam.
