Major Grey’s Chutney
April 15, 2015A fresh batch of Major Grey’s chutney from Stonewall Kitchen arrived the other day at the First Avenue shop. This is one of those things we always have a jar of in the fridge at the ready. Add a dollop to a sandwich, serve alongside chicken, or for a super easy week night appetizer with a good piece of cheese and a baguette or crackers. Major Grey’s is a type of chutney, reputedly created by a 19th-century British Army officer of the same name who lived in British India. Its characteristic ingredients are mango, raisins, vinegar, lime juice, onion, tamarind extract, and spices. A jar also makes a lovely host/hostess gift in place of wine or jam.
