A Surprise On Arrival

May 14, 2021

Flower Friday about lovely leaves instead of blooms this week. When we departed Hawthorne after our month stay in January we had been treated to an amaryllis show the entire visit that was pretty out of this world. I didn’t even give it a second thought after the last bloom wilted as I knew it would lay dormant in our cool basement until next holiday season for a second act. Caretaker Bill instead kept watering it each week since we left and the leaves have grown quite large and supremely lovely. It greeted us on Tuesday evening and I am quite smitten with its beautiful simplicity. This shot my office for the day yesterday with the amaryllis leaves taking center stage. We crave flowers and plants, always really, but here even more so, as it instantly wakes up the house bringing verdant life to the rooms. The lilac season was just ending as we left Seattle and our big bush here is just about to explode. So a second season of lilacs this year is in the cards. Stay tuned as they most certainly will be gracing the tables soon. Have a grand May week-end everyone. From the Hudson Valley, T2+B
