Sunday Supper For Two
August 19, 2025
A customer asked me the other day if I still set a full table if we are not having guests. Great question, and the answer was/is, almost always/like 98% of the time. We love to honor the meal, as well as honor the time we are together. Most of the time, our dining tables have layers of visual ‘stuff’ on them so they look nice as we walk by it throughout the day. This helps pull a simple and quick table setting together after a busy day. It also makes breakfast and lunch at the table lovely too if we are home for the day. Flowers, candles, ephemera—always have a home on our dining tables. The other evening out on the island I did a quick setting as we were only out there one night. This is the table I set. The patchwork Madras tablecloth a current favorite and it instantly sets a preppy vibe. Friends brought us a fabulous gift of a blue cooler filled with hydrangea the weekend before, and I thought the blooms would absolutely set the mood for the table. Then I layered lots of blue things, all from the shops, to make a full and inviting table for us. Lit the Henry Dean blue vessels as the sun was setting as we began our supper. A quick table for two!
