A Dining Room In All Sorts Of Greens

Our dining room at Hawthorne often ends up being the heart & soul of the house for much of our stay. We savor long meals—morning, noon and night. During the day I often use it as my desk. To the right in this photo is a large set of windows that look out into the Hawthorne Valley, so the view becomes a big part of the experience. The door in the middle of the room leads out to the back porch. Opening up that door and the front door of the house creates an amazing flow of air, with the dining room becoming a major recipient of the breeze. The vibe of the old farmhouse comes most alive on a warm day when the country air swirls about. There is always some bird or frog or creature singing about, which often becomes our music for the day. Green seemed like the perfect color for this room, and actually all the rooms, as it brings the beautiful outside in.
