Hydrangea Heaven

September 19, 2025

Today was the day! We often get off to a slow start after we arrive—sleeping in, grocery shopping, getting things just so. A few days to just be. Appropriate that this is Flower Friday and we decided to play with the abundance of limelight hydrangea at both houses. Mister Sive cut armload after armload of stems for me to work with, where we set up a work station on the long picnic table out back.

Even after all the hydrangea he cut, the bushes barely look like they have been touched. A morning for me playing with flowers is pure heaven. That these arrangements dry so beautifully is motivation to make them fairly substantial as we get to enjoy them until next year at this time when we give them a refresh.

The above image is a new spot for us to put an arrangement. It is in the front room right after you leave the sunporch. I like that it is low, so you can look at the top of the blooms. Having flowers at varying heights always a goal if possible.

On the back porch, a low vintage zinc bucket behind one of the sofas looking out to the pond becomes a focal part of the room filling the console table perfectly with Dunes & Duchess candelabras flanking the arrangement. We have lots of visiting guests from near and far this stay, so it is fun to get these places early for all to enjoy.
