We have been holding on for dear life to the last days of Summer. Oh what a glorious season it has been. I shot this table quite quickly before guests arrived the other day. Our ‘last supper’ of the season with friends out on the island before we head East for a month and usher in Autumn. We had a group for supper in July and a few of them mentioned that the deck, which has started to fade a bit over the years from the intense sunshine, was looking like a Nantucket red. We love it! That shade of red, near & dear to my heart. Sort of a washed out pinky red. Major preppy happiness. Of course I love it! This table is sort of an ode to that. The swirl plates almost a salmon red. The water goblets such a unique shade of the hue. The French linen tablecloth we have had almost as long as we have had the house, has faded a bit each year from laundering, is absolutely taking on the color. As we sat enjoying our cocktail with visiting friends, a light drizzle began. So up we went and quickly moved the table under the eaves, which we quite adore. The meal becomes super cozy. Many of our lamps are getting a shade refresh. In the before times, I had a lovely maker of fine shades and then she moved away. It has taken until now to find the fabulously talented Marcy to create beauty in shade form for me. These lampshades are printed on luxurious silk using the Cyanotype process. This process utilizes UV (sunlight) to create prints. It is a photographic method, originally invented in 1842, that creates a cyan blue image in a similar way as creating sun prints. Variations in the technique can allow many creative solutions. She uses local Northwest plants: ferns, Queen Anne’s lace, and other delicate flowers which bring a certain aliveness to the final work. The fabrics are beautiful in and of themselves and then come to life in a whole different way when the light is turned on showing all the delicate undertones, features, and subtleties present. #BeautyInManyForms #AlwaysInTheDetails At #WatsonKennedy

The big galvanized tub of scented geraniums in the hazelnut shell courtyard have loved this mild few weeks, looking the best they have all season. If the weather stays above freezing until Spring, not unheard of in the Pacific Northwest, they will come back strong as ever. #GeraniumLove At #WestWardVashonIsland P.S.
