DEAN & DELUCA Love

20120813-081902.jpg We leave this coming Friday for a buying trip to New York. I was looking through some of my photos from our last trip, and realized I did not write posts on a few things I took pictures of–Dean & DeLuca being one of them. We started making regular trips back to New York starting in 1989, the year after we met. The year before, Dean & DeLuca had just relocated and opened their now iconic store on the corner of Broadway and Prince Streets. I remember that first visit so clearly. I was just completely taken by the level of detail and the sheer beauty of the space–the huge exposed columns, the white tile walls, Carrara marble floors, stainless steel display cases and abundant Metro shelving–as well as the amazing assortment and volume of product. To me good retail evokes a feeling. How a spaces “feels” is of huge importance. Being in that space just made me feel good, and it still does almost 25 years later. It was, and continues to be, a feast for the eyes. I try and go on each NY visit, as I love shopping there. The SoHo location will always hold a special place in my heart.

  1. Dean & DeLuca is so delish!! How long will you be in New York? I move to Brooklyn on Monday. Have you guys scoped out Brooklyn yet? I have a feeling there are quite a few boutiques over there that would catch your eye :) Safe travels!

  2. Hi Esther. Sooooo happy for you for your move. It will be a super quick trip for us, so no Brooklyn this adventure, but next time for sure. Keep in touch, and safe travels for you too. Ted

  4. Hi Tammy. Yep, I love that one too, but the SoHo location is just magical, so you must go when you are in NYC. We will:) Best, Ted
