This time of year for us I like to set the ‘bones’ of the table and then slightly tweak it depending on what flowers are looking best at the Market or the grocery store. This year hydrangea and lilies have been competing for a spot at the table, along with paperwhites, a stunning amaryllis that just won’t stop blooming, and a green shrub that has a small Christmas tree vibe going on. From there I can change out placemats, plates, glassware, napkins and silverware to mix up the variety. Candlelight is key this time of year, so a mixture of tapers and votives do the trick.
Honoring the meal during this crazy busy season becomes even more important. To be able to sit after a long day and leisurely enjoy our supper is a tonic to the non-stop motion of the day. This is also true whether we are cooking a meal, ordering take-out or reheating leftovers. Setting a nice table elevates the dining experience. As we near the retail marathon finish line these moments become vital, for both the body & soul.
