Ted’s Tip No. 471

February 26, 2024

In stressful times, gravitate towards activities that calm you and bring you to a happy place. For some that might be a hike, for others it might be reading a book to take your mind off of things. For me it is in the kitchen, cooking. Whatever those activities are, go to them often and enjoy those moments.

Dancing Tulips

Flower Friday a supper table with dancing tulips running down the middle of it. One of my favorite ways to use a bundle of blooms. A lovely last weekend of February everyone. Spring is on the way! X

Puppy Energy

February 22, 2024

The most common messages I have received on social media this past month have been—we want to see more photos of Hendricks! Or folks walk into the shop and they don’t say hello first, they say, where is Hendricks?! We love all the love. The boy is growing up right before our eyes. The amount of joy he brings absolutely immense. He is full of puppy energy which keeps his daddies on their toes but is tons of fun. There is never a dull moment with this boy. He is now sleeping through the night, which we have been ever so grateful for. We have had one session with a trainer and more on the way. He had his second vet visit in Seattle yesterday and has one more in a few weeks to get the last of his puppy shots. The vet in Poughkeepsie and in Seattle both guestimate his weight to be between 12 and 14 pounds fully grown. Which was exactly the weight range of Bailey. Yesterday he clocked in at 6.3 pounds. He looooooves his chew toys and his morning and evening run down the hall as fast as he can as many times as he can is a quite something to witness. Pure puppy joy. He is a go everywhere pooch, loving being a shop dog during the week in town and hanging at the beach on the island on the weekends. As well as being a heck of a host at dinner parties. He tells me he misses all of his Hudson Valley friends and can’t wait to see them all in May! He is laying right next to me as I type this, just looking up to as to say, show the pictures, show the pictures. The little gent is a ham for the camera.

Ever Evolving

February 21, 2024

Our Wine & Champagne selection at the First & Spring shop is ever evolving and growing. My goal is to offer a grouping of things I have tried and quite loved, at a variety of prices. Bottles that could absolutely become your ‘house wine’ that are really well-priced that you can have on hand for any supper of the week or when you host a party. To extra special bottles like a hard to find Bandol Domaine Tempier rosé. We have a dedicated display case just for Veuve fans too! With lots of VCP vintage finds along with bottle after bottle of yummy goodness. Being a Kermit Lynch super fan, always a lovely assortment of his bottles, as well. Plus nuts galore and glassware and books and napkins and just about anything else needed to give a stylish gift or stock up your wine & entertaining offerings. Cheers!

A Pop Of Color

February 20, 2024

While working the Market shop the other day, I quickly reworked a colorful display of objects in-between helping customers. The British pencil pots were all up on the top shelf, all squeezed together. A mix of random things filled the cubby. Out came that mix and in went a variety of the bright lettered pots. In a matter of minutes the look of the display was completely changed. Absolutely for the better. Folks can now see more of the variety and visually it is much more cohesive.
