Hawthorne in Autumn

The Hudson Valley in Autumn is quite spectacular. Dreamy really. Although I am clinging to every last bit of Summer, it has been feeling pretty fall-ish so my mind keeps wandering into the next season. We always spend a few weeks at Hawthorne in October to enjoy the change of colors. The above photo one of my all-time favorites taken by the sublime photographer Kelly Merchant for a feature she shot for Design Sponge. The carpet of leaves telling the story. Customers often ask me at the shops how they arrange a stay at Hawthorne. The fine folks at Airbnb do a swell job of booking it. Caretaker Bill makes sure everything is in order at the house and looking spiffy. We have binders and binders of maps and ideas for things to do once you arrive. September, October and November are pretty darn magical in that part of the world. Click here for more information if you have any interest.

Happy Thursday from Seattle! X, T

This and That

Reporting on a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Above, check out the travel magazine Virtuoso Life. A Watson Kennedy shout-out in the latest issue. Below, a ‘Top 20 Home Tours of All Time’ over on the Design Sponge blog where Hawthorne nabbed a spot. And finally, after 5 days in bed finally up & about and feeling human again (a saying my dad always used to say) and heading into the shops today. I can’t wait! Thank you for all the kind get well wishes this week. Happy start of Spring!!!

A Hawthorne Moment/Moments

I feel like we got off the airplane a few weeks ago and it has been a sprint since. Getting the shops ‘Holiday’ ready and just lots of other fun things going on, I have yet to do a re-cap of the Hawthorne trip. We timed the visit perfectly, as the change of colors was like watching an autumnal ballet the two weeks we were there. If you have not guessed it yet, it is a place where we go to recharge. It has become a place where I do my best thinking, planning, dreaming. Comfort is key. We laughed when we counted 6 sofas, so curling up with a good book or napping is always part of a days activity. It has been such a treat to turn this farmhouse into our home these past 2 years. Bit by bit, each stay we add a piece here and there and the place is starting to take shape. I think a home is always a work in progress, for all of us, but enjoying the heck out of that journey along the way is what makes it all so sweet.

20151119-042823.jpg The above all just moments from that stay. Venturing out to Hudson and Chatham is always part of the visit. We are also incredibly close to the Berkshires in Massachusetts, so we spent an afternoon at The Clark. Below images captured by photographer Kelly Merchant from the Design Sponge shoot that also occurred on this trip. We will return in snowy January, when the house will be blanketed in white, another season to watch unfold around us.

Our Beloved Hawthorne on Design*Sponge

20151109-102957.jpg Hawthorne is currently featured on the uber popular design blog, Design*Sponge It is fun to see it in all of its autumnal splendor with the leaves and the trees in beauteous color. The creator of the blog, Grace Booney came to the house during our last visit, along with her wife Julia Turshen. It was so nice to sit on the back porch and chat and get to know them. It was photographed by the talented Kelly Merchant who was also just a delight to get to know a bit. Bailey fell in love with the trio within minutes. All three live within an hour south of Ghent, so they are Hudson Valley folk too. Check out the post for hits of green and see how the house is progressing.

As I have mentioned previously, we are renting Hawthorne on a select basis, for a minimum of a week stay. We really want to spread the love and have others enjoy it as much as we do, when we are not there. Please contact me directly if you are interested.
